Cycling to Shikoku
Shimanami Kaido is a popular, well maintained and interesting cycling route between Onomichi and Imabari, connecting Honshu with Shikoku over half a dozen smaller islands and attractive bridges. All accesses to the bridges are made with cyclists in mind - with an average inclination of 3% only. You can choose among few alternative routes across islands and make stops at temples and other sights if you prefer. There are bicycle terminals along the way (one on each island) enabling everyone to decide what trip suits them. Note: You are not entitled to deposit refund if you don't return the bicycle at the same terminal as rented.
At first I was planning to ride for about 30 kilometres and then return back after a midday break. However, I already passed half way when I stopped for lunch, so I decided to do the whole trip and return with a bus. It was a good call. After 75 kilometres I did feel tired, but deeply satisfied. I believe every cycling lover would enjoy it.
